The Avalon membership exercises power of choice and shapes the economy through buying from ethical businesses and industries that demonstrate leadership standards in improving quality of life and the environment. The first stage Avalon Ecovillage will market local organic produce and create a retail venue and eco-expo facility showcasing leading green technology and products. Plans for the larger campus village include an extraordinary green marketplace with domed indoor streets and terraced gardens, with education and lively atmosphere for the conscious consumer. Residential suites are imaginatively combined with retail lease space to create a vibrant neighbourhood centre. An experiential learning facility is also part of our vision to support the transition to a sustainable economic future for the agricultural sector.
All of the companies and farm enterprises that are part of our Business Leaders Guild will meet some or all of Avalon’s social and environmental criteria and will benefit from public recognition of their commitment. These ethical criteria range from product and service benefits such as reducing waste or pollution, to corporate social responsibility and fair trading practices. Avalon will support the greening of the commercial, agricultural and industrial sectors by offering a ‘seven seals’ certification program, workplace consultations and workshops, and a yearly network awards event. The marketplace directory will utilize a convenient search engine and offer our Avalon membership special discounts. Members can also shop directly at registered stores that will display our Avalon Ethical Marketplace logo.
